What is a scale and polish treatment?

How often should I have this treatment?

Most people benefit from a scale and polish every six months, but this can vary depending on your oral health. Your dental provider will recommend the ideal frequency based on your individual needs.

What is Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)?

Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a modern, gentle approach to dental cleaning. It uses advanced technology to effectively remove biofilm, plaque, and early tartar with minimal discomfort.

Will the treatment hurt or cause sensitivity?

You may experience mild sensitivity during or after the treatment, especially if you have sensitive teeth or gum inflammation. This usually resolves within a day or two.

Will this make my teeth look whiter?

While a scale and polish can brighten your smile by removing surface stains, it is not a teeth whitening treatment. For more noticeable whitening, a separate procedure may be recommended.

The Process

Pre-Treatment

Before your appointment, continue your regular brushing and flossing routine. If you have any dental concerns or medical conditions, let your clinician know so they can tailor your care accordingly.

Treatment

During your scale and polish, your dental hygienist will use the latest GBT machine to remove plaque and tartar, with airflow stain removal included as standard. Treatment usually takes 30–45 minutes.

Post-Treatment

After your treatment, your teeth will feel noticeably cleaner and smoother. You can eat and drink as normal, though avoiding very hot or cold items for a few hours may help if you experience sensitivity.

Sides Effects & Risks

Mild gum tenderness or tooth sensitivity may occur temporarily after treatment. Serious side effects are rare when the procedure is carried out by a qualified dental professional.
