How long do composite fillings last?

With good care, composite fillings usually last between 5 and 7 years. Their lifespan depends on oral hygiene, the tooth’s location, and how much pressure it endures when biting.

Is getting a composite filling painful?

The procedure is generally comfortable. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area, so you shouldn’t feel pain during treatment. Mild sensitivity afterwards is normal and usually short-lived.

Can composite fillings be used on front teeth?

The Process

Pre-Treatment

Treatment

During the procedure, the tooth is cleaned and any decay is removed. The composite material is then applied in layers, shaped, and hardened with a special light. Once set, it’s polished to match the natural tooth surface.

Post-Treatment

You can usually eat and drink once the anaesthetic wears off. Some temporary sensitivity is normal and should ease within a few days. Maintaining good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups will help extend the life of your filling.
