Cracked Tooth
A cracked tooth is very simply, a tooth which has split or is starting to show signs of crack lines. These lines more often than not are above the gum line, but it is not uncommon for these cracks to extend beyond the gum line.

Causes
Some of the most common reasons why teeth crack are:
- Excessive forces due to grinding
- Biting on hard foods
- Trauma
- Extremes of temperature (suddenly going from something hot to something very cold or vice versa)
- Age
- Existing large fillings
Can I Leave A Cracked Tooth?
This would be entirely dependent on the severity and if there are any associated symptoms with the tooth. Cracks will not heal on their own and without a Dental assessment it is not possible to say if it can be left.
Treatments
This is again highly dependent on the severity of the crack. The first port of call should be to book in for a consultation to see one of our Dental Professionals, if they deem fit they may offer you one of the following options
- Filling (Mild cases)
- Crown (Moderate cases)
- Extraction (Severe cases)
