What are All-on-4 dental implants?

All-on-4 is a full-arch dental implant treatment that replaces every tooth in a jaw with a fixed bridge or overdenture, supported by just four implants. A dental implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone; over the following months it fuses with the bone — a process known as osseointegration6 — providing a stable, permanent foundation for a fixed restoration. In the All-on-4 arrangement, two implants are placed vertically at the front of the jaw and two are angled toward the back,1,2 making the most of the available bone without the need for grafting in most cases.

All-on-4 is designed for people who have lost — or are about to lose — all of the teeth in one or both jaws, and for long-term denture wearers who want a permanent, stable alternative to a removable plate.

In suitable cases a temporary fixed bridge can be fitted on the same day as surgery.2 All planning is carried out in-house using 3D CBCT imaging for precise, personalised implant placement.

Pre-Treatment

Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation with Dr Takhar: a full clinical examination, medical history review, and an in-house 3D CBCT scan. We assess bone volume and quality, discuss whether All-on-4 or an alternative is right for you, and prepare a personalised treatment plan and quote.

Treatment

Four implants are placed under local anaesthetic, with sedation or general anaesthetic available for anxious or more complex cases. In many cases a fixed temporary bridge is fitted the same day. Most patients report only mild discomfort afterwards, managed with ordinary pain relief.

Any swelling or bruising usually settles within a few days. You will follow a soft-food diet during recovery, with clear aftercare guidance and review appointments to check healing. Our experienced team is available throughout to answer your questions and monitor your progress.

Am I a good candidate for All-on-4?

Most people who have lost, or are losing, all teeth in an arch can be considered for All-on-4. Suitability depends on bone volume and quality, gum health and general health — factors such as smoking and diabetes are assessed as part of your consultation.7 A meeting with Dr Takhar, including an in-house 3D CBCT scan, will confirm whether All-on-4 or an alternative is right for you.

How long does the procedure take, and will I leave with teeth?

Implant placement is usually completed in a single day. In many suitable cases a fixed temporary bridge is fitted the same day, so you do not leave without teeth.2 Your definitive bridge is then fitted once the implants have fully integrated with the bone, typically over the following few months.

Is All-on-4 surgery painful?

What happens if an implant fails?

Implant failure is uncommon. If an implant does not integrate with the bone, it can usually be removed and the site allowed to heal before a replacement attempt. Ongoing review appointments monitor implant health so any concern is identified and addressed early. Dr Takhar will discuss the management of risks with you at your consultation.8
